Using AI
Notes on being a conscientious & competent user of the tools available to me
In late 2022, I began to use an LLM on a regular basis. My first use case was curriculum writing for a web development class that I was teaching. I remember sharing with some family members and co-workers that they should really start using this tool to help them with their work and with their lives. One thing I noticed quickly was that some of the suggested use cases outside of software engineering felt like they would soon become behavioral dependencies for the users. I ignored it, though, because of the incredible weight the LLM and its chat interface lifted from my workload, which allowed me to provide more frequent individualized attention to my students. Surely, other professionals could benefit from the experience I had of being able to add more humanity to the work.
